County clerk extends Niagara Falls DMV hours

Two of Niagara County's Department of Motor Vehicles offices have been forced to limit operations due to a catastrophic fiber-optic cable failure that has affected 29 counties around the state.

The Lockport and North Tonawanda DMV offices are unable to process transactions at this time.  County Clerk Wayne F. Jagow announced he has shifted employees and resources to the Niagara Falls DMV office, located in the Trott Access Center 1001 11th St., and is extending hours until 6:30 p.m. to ensure that county residents have access to the DMV ahead of the Memorial Day holiday weekend.

Jagow also advised county residents that computer systems at three of Erie County's offices remain functional. County residents may also utilize DMV facilities at the Rath Building, 170 Pearl St., Buffalo; North Town Plaza, 3097A Sheridan Dr., Amherst; and the Depew DMV office, 2122 George Urban Blvd. (at Dick Road intersection), Cheektowaga.

The computer outages being experienced by DMVs were caused by a failure due to effects from recent major storms. Jagow said state officials have provided no estimated time of completion for repair to the downstate fiber-optic line.
