The Grand Island Town Board set aside May 13, 2011, as Winifred R. Zarbo Day throughout the Town of Grand Island in recognition of Zarbo's 90th birthday
To mark the proclamation, Zarbo's daughter Penny Panepinto and Penny's husband George hosted a party for family members, who gathered Sunday, May 15, at E.B. Greens in the Hyatt in downtown Buffalo
Included in the celebration was Zarbo's daughter, Paula Zucarelli. Also in attendance were her brother Ray Nola and his wife Janette, and special guests for the dinner celebration the Rev. Paul Nogaro of St. Stephen R.C. Church, the Rev. Richard Reina, director of spiritual formation at Christ the King Seminary in East Aurora, and Sister Mary Charlene Nowak, CSSF.
Zarbo is the grandmother of 10, the great-grandmother of 22, and great-great-grandmother of two.
George Panepinto presented Zarbo the proclamation and described the strength and faith she has maintained through her life. Winnie's indomitable spirit is an inspiration to all younger people and a testimony to the Greatest Generation, he said.
