Old Fort Niagara will host a living history weekend focused on 18th century survival skills on Saturday and Sunday, April 9-10, between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. Visitors will learn how to start a fire with flint and steel, make candles, trade for furs, prepare 18th century recipes and make objects useful for winter survival.

The American Long Rifle Association sponsors the event. Founded in 1982, the ALRA is a living history organization that encourages members to experience the lives of common colonial people. ALRA stresses historical accuracy in period clothing and personal equipment, safety and marksmanship with flintlock rifles and development of period skills.
