Rotary scholarships available

The Rotary Club of Niagara County Central informs it is now seeking applications from area high school seniors for its 2011 college scholarships.

The $1,000 scholarships are offered to students from the Niagara-Wheatfield, Starpoint and Wilson central school districts. Students who reside in these districts and attend a New York state accredited high school may apply.

The scholarships are awarded based on the student's community volunteer activities, need and leadership role within his or her community. Applicants must furnish college acceptance letters.

All applicants must maintain a minimum 2.6 grade-point average or better or an overall average of 82 or above. Students will be required to complete an application, present two letters of recommendation and complete a 350-word handwritten essay.

Applications can be obtained at high school guidance offices or school district counseling centers as well as on district websites. Completed applications can be returned to the school guidance offices or mailed to: The Rotary Club of Niagara County Central, PO Box 204, Sanborn, NY 14132. Deadline for submitting completed applications is April 1.

Top qualifying applicants will be interviewed prior to the selection of the $1,000 scholarship.
