Reopened just eight years ago, Olcott Beach Carousel Park has been accumulating different attractions each year to add to its uniqueness. Boasting restored vintage kiddie park rides from the 1940s and '50s as well as a vintage 1928 Herschell-Spillman carousel; the park is an attraction that people from all over enjoy. Adults can join in on the fun while playing one of six vintage skee ball machines. Since all rides are only 25 cents, there is hardly a limit on the amount of fun families can have at the park.

Olcott Beach Carousel Park is a non-profit corporation. Run entirely by volunteers, both the corporation and the park rely heavily on the communities' generous donations to continue being a significant landmark within the neighborhood. Each year the corporation hopes to accomplish a new project. Last year's money that was raised was put toward blacktopping the park. This year, the corporation is looking toward building restrooms, new ride gates and queue lines for the park.

On Sunday, March 27, Olcott Fire Company and Auctioneer Scott Perry and company will be hosting the 11th auction to benefit the Olcott Beach Carousel Park. The auction will be held at the Olcott Fire Hall.  Previewing of the live auction items will begin at noon and continue until 2 p.m. The live auction will begin at 2 p.m., but basket raffles will take place throughout the entire day's events. Admission is $10 per person and includes registration fees, lunch and music by Sophisticated Swing. Additionally, there is a chance to win $100 cash, but you must be present to win.

Previous auctions turned out more than 200 people. President of Olcott Beach Carousel Park, Rosemary Sansone, describes the corporation's past auctions as great successes. "We have been very, very fortunate," she said, "All of the local merchants support and donate to the event as well as many local people of the community."

This year's auction is said to showcase some very intriguing items. One in particular should be very special to the people of Olcott: a photo taken of the beach area during wintertime that has been transferred onto a canvas to create a painted effect. Sansone also describes an antique rocking chair in mint condition that will be held for auction. "It is just beautiful, and very comfortable, too!" said Sansone of the treasured item.

Other items in the auction range from an antique Victorian carved bed donated by Just Lookin' to a 20-person week stay at a beach house in Lake Anna, Va., donated by Steven Geise. Also up for bids will be an Amish quilt donated by White Accounting and Tax Specialists and Carol Alabiso Estate Liquidations and Appraisals, a two-person tow boating tube and bungee cord donated by Dave and Judy Kirkpatrick, diamond stud earrings, antique children's books from the Teddy Roosevelt collection, a child's sheriff pedal car donated by Jim and Rosemary Sansone and many other items. With such a variety of options to bid on, Sansone is sure that "there is something for everyone!"

Don't miss out on your opportunity to take home a number of great treasures at the auction for Olcott Beach Carousel Park on Sunday, March 27, and to give back to such an irreplaceable community attraction.
