Lewiston Police are continuing their investigations into an accident that occurred Wednesday morning on the 2700 block of Ridge Road and claimed the life of a Lewiston resident.

Chief of Police Chris Salada reported Ryan C. Henderson, 35, was driving a 2002 Hyundai Elantra that was traveling east on Ridge Road and drifted into the westbound lane. It struck a Buffalo Fuel Corp tractor-trailer, a 2005 Volvo that was heading west.

"The two vehicles struck head on, sending the car into a ditch on the south side of Ridge Road," Salada said.

He reported Ransomville Volunteer Fire Co, was called to extricate Henderson and extinguish a fire in the engine compartment of the vehicle. Henderson was pronounced dead at the scene by County Coroner Robert Dubois, who transported the body to ECMC in Buffalo.

The tractor-trailer, driven by Alfredo Figueroa, 52, ended up in a ditch on the north side of Ridge Road. Figueroa was taken to ECMC for an evaluation.

Lewiston haz-mat and the state Department of Environmental Conservation responded to the scene for a minor diesel spill from the tractor-trailer, which was secured on the scene by Military Towing.

Lewiston Police were assisted in their investigation by the Niagara County Sheriff's Office ID and Accident Reconstruction Unit, and New York State Police Commercial Vehicle Team.

Lewiston Police Officer Tony Nicoletti reports his investigation is ongoing.

Visitation will take place Sunday, Jan. 30, from 2 to 6 p.m. at the Hardison Funeral Home, North Fourth and Ridge streets in the Village of Lewiston. A celebration of life service will be held at a later date.
