Niagara 1812 Bicentennial Legacy Council names Nolf coordinator

The cross-border partnership during the bicentennial celebrations just got stronger, as the Niagara 1812 Bicentennial Legacy Council announced this week the appointment of Neil E. Nolf as the organization's new Niagara County coordinator.

Nolf retired from the U.S. Department of Defense, has a long list of accomplishments and a notable resume; serving more than 30 years at the Niagara Falls Air Reserve Station and as an inductee of the Niagara Aerospace Hall of Fame in 2008. A northern Niagara County resident, Nolf is currently serving on several non-profit boards and also operates a consulting firm.

Nolf will be responsible for coordinating 1812 Legacy Council events and initiatives for Niagara County, and acting as a liaison for area historic groups.

"Neil's outstanding military and Department of Defense background will contribute greatly to the initiatives the Legacy Council is undertaking for the bicentennial, as the Niagara County coordinator," says Brian Merrett, CEO of the Niagara 1812 Bicentennial Legacy Council. "His connections and strong work-ethic bring promise to the position, and, for that, I think Niagara County will benefit and become a stronger player in the upcoming commemoration."

"I look forward to supporting our cross-border community," says Nolf, "and telling the story of our great military heritage on the Niagara Frontier with regard to the historical events surrounding the War of 1812.

Nolf's appointed position came from the approval of the Legacy Council's binational board of directors. Funding for the position was provided through the Niagara 10 group, which consists of 10 mayors on both sides of the border.

The Niagara 1812 Bicentennial Legacy Council is a cross-border not-for-profit organization established to commemorate the War of 1812 and celebrate the 200 years of peace between Canada and the U.S. that have followed.
