We are "helping to feed those less fortunate, who simply cannot afford the basic essentials of life. It's a great cause and I'm proud to be a part of it," says Rev. Lowery.
Several months in development, the food pantry is comprised of churches, schools and businesses working together to provide services to meet the community's needs. Its hours of operation are Thursdays, 4 to 8 p.m., and Saturdays, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Services are available to all qualifying persons who reside in the 14131, 14092, and 14174 zip codes.
Integral to the RCS Food Pantry's development has been its partnership with Mike Cancilla, principal of Stevenson Elementary School, and Martinez, president of Stevenson PTA, along with local businesses.
"We want you to become a partner with us. We need you!" says Lowery, inviting businesses, organizations and residents in the Lewiston, Youngstown and Ransomville communities to become involved. "Together we can do what no one could do on their own!"
Lowery is asking community food pantry partners to post RCS flyers for informational purposes; help make the RCS Food Pantry known to friends and associates; consider financial support; consider collecting canned and dried goods to stock the shelves and make referrals.
"As we begin this venture we need your monetary donations to help fill up the shelves at RCS Food Pantry. With the current state of the economy, it has become even more important to raise money to meet the current needs. To donate, simply write your check out to Ransomville Free Methodist Church and in the ‘memo' section write RCS Food Pantry. Your donation may be used as a tax deduction," says Lowery.
Donation of canned and/or dried goods may be dropped off at 3924 Ransomville Road, Monday through Friday, between the hours of 9 a.m. and 4 p.m.
"Thank you for partnering with us!" says Lowery.
