Niagara-Wheatfield Kiwanis Club news

On Oct. 7, the new officers and board of directors of the Kiwanis Club of Niagara-Wheatfield were inducted at the Red Coach Inn.

A delicious dinner followed the invocation delivered by Kiwanian Colin Smith. Ron Parent, lieutenant governor of Niagara Frontier-North performed the installation of officers.

Niagara-Wheatfield Kiwanis' 2011 directors are Tom Beachy, Steve Evert, Susie Pembleton and Gary Strenkowski and the 2012 directors are Mary Dohm, Franca Romeo, Sara Sperrazza and Arlene Stallard. Elected for the 2010-11 year are: Secretary, Colin Smith, Treasurer Alice Attardo, Vice President Danny Maerten, President-Elect Susan Smith and President Gary Heuck. The club members enjoyed roasting outgoing President David Karwick. The benediction by Kiwanian Sara Sperrazza, ended the evening.

The group had a busy summer with fundraising and community service endeavors. Members engaging in their first "Cash for Kids" at the corners of Niagara Falls Boulevard, Niagara and Walmore roads, dedicating proceeds for various youth programs. They grabbed orange garbage bags to clean up of their adopted highway, Ward Road to Saunders Settlement Road. Karwick served as a celebrity bartender for an Opportunities Unlimited fundraiser. The club also participated in the Wheatfield Family Picnic with a can't lose beanbag toss/win a balloon game.  For the second consecutive year, the Niagara-Wheatfield Kiwanis operated a booth at the Lewiston Peach Festival, selling 600 turkey drumsticks, cases of sweet corn and countless cups of peach slushies.

The Niagara-Wheatfield Kiwanis meets at 6:30 p.m. Thursdays at the Jetport Restaurant, 7100 Porter Road in the Town of Niagara.
