Unlike neighboring Wheatfield, things are quiet on the Town of Niagara budget front.

No one, except the Tribune editor, was in the audience at the Town of Niagara Town Board's public hearing on the budget on Monday.

Supervisor Steve Richards' tentative $7.3 million budget still is being reviewed by the Town Board. More board budget review sessions are scheduled for 6 p.m. Nov. 1 and 3. A final budget is expected to be adopted at the 7 p.m. regular meeting on Nov. 16.

Richards' budget, if not changed by the board, would likely call for a homestead tax rate of $5.03 per $1,000 assessed value. This would mean an increase of about $7.20 for the year on a house assessed at $60,000, Richards said. The small increase could be eliminated by budget approval time, especially if some possible retirements go through, Richards said.

The non-homestead (business) rate would be $8.71 per $1,000 of assessed value.
