Local auto body legend Tom DeCarlo has joined forces with Maaco Collision Repair & Auto Painting to return the chain to Buffalo, where it hasn't had a franchise location for 20 years. DeCarlo has operated his body shop, at 1351 Niagara St., since 1963 and has been a licensed body man since 1955. The merged operation is now called "My Maaco/DeCarlo" Collision.

"My Maaco/DeCarlo is a place where out-of-pocket payers, as well as insurance companies and fleet accounts, can trust the quality of the repair, get their vehicles back quickly, and pay much less than they would at other body shops," DeCarlo said.

A collision repair on a 1-to-3-year-old car usually calls for state-of-the-art options. The owner of a 4-to-10-year-old car could benefit from a shop that knows how to provide a superior-looking job and still find ways to lower the estimate, especially when the driver is paying out of pocket.

"It is important to bring a vehicle back to a condition that maintains the resale value if the car would be going into the resale arena," DeCarlo said. "However, with an older car -- or one the customer will keep for four or five more years and is looking for an excellent repair but may be paying himself -- My Maaco/DeCarlo will find ways to save money without affecting the quality of the repair."

The 475 Maaco centers across the U.S. repair and paint more than 600,000 vehicles each year. The 17 million vehicles repaired since 1972 would create a 15-lane traffic jam all the way from New York to Los Angeles. Maaco Franchising Inc. is headquartered in King of Prussia, Pa.
