Porter Labor Day Fest to feature music, food and fun

The Town of Porter invites area residents to attend its third annual Porter on the Lake Labor Day Fest, Monday, Sept. 6, at the town lakeside park located off Dietz Road. Promising an unforgettable day of music, great food and fun, gates open that day at 10 a.m. and close at dusk.

Hosted by the Town of Porter, and the Ransomville Business and Professional Association (in cooperation with the Niagara River Region Chamber of Commerce), the Toronto skyline and the blue waters of Lake Ontario provide a picturesque backdrop for Porter on the Lake Labor Day Fest, say organizers.

The event will stage five well-known Western New York musical acts, including Mo Porter, Copperhead Road, Free Henry! and Rip and the Bandogs. Music starts at 11 a.m. The headline performance gets under way at 6 p.m., and features The Boys of Summer, who will offer their rendition of favorite Top 40 tunes, including "Only the Good Die Young," "I Will Survive," "What a Wonderful World" and "Mambo No. 5," among others.

Co-chairs of the event are Town of Porter residents Linda White and her husband, Town Councilman Larry White, and Gloria Baker and her husband, Town Councilmember Jeff Baker.

"The purpose of this event is to showcase our park and also to generate revenue for its maintenance fund," says Jeff Baker.

"The park is free to the pubic 364 days a year," he adds. "On this one day, we are asking for a donation of $5 per adult (children are free). All proceeds from the entrance fees will be used to offset costs associated with the event and to put in a fund to maintain and improve the park for public enjoyment."

Proceeds from the beer tent will be shared with the Youngstown and Ransomville Volunteer Fire companies.

In addition to musical entertainment, there will be food vendors and many activities for children and families including coloring, a bounce house, magicians, clowns, face painting and games.

Pre-sale tickets are available at First Niagara Bank-Lewiston, 500 Center Street, and the Niagara River Region Chamber of Commerce, 100 N. Third St., Lewiston.
