For the first time ever, Niagara University Theatre's repertory troupe, N.U.R.T., will present free children's theater productions on campus every Wednesday from 2 to 3 p.m. from July 21 through Aug. 18. The production will be presented in the William P. and Marie Leary Theatre within the Elizabeth Ann Clune Center for Theatre in Clet Hall.

Amanda Sharpe, adjunct theater professor and N.U.R.T. director, said, "Our children's theater production will include about 30 minutes of children's skits and a 30-minute workshop during which our theater students will teach children in the audience how to perform a skit. The production is appropriate for children ages 3 to 12, and we ask that children are accompanied by an adult."

Gregory Fletcher, director of NU Theatre, said N.U.R.T. is a traveling troupe of NU theater students who present children's stories and tall tales to amuse children each summer at area parks, day-care centers and at the Castellani Art Museum's summer kids ‘n' arts camp. N.U.R.T. was previously known as A.R.T. when the NU actors performed at Artpark from the 1970s-1990s. The theater troupe has been in existence for 33 years.

"This year we want to show off our new first class facilities on campus," Fletcher said. "We just opened the renovated William P. and Marie Leary Theatre within the new Elizabeth Ann Clune Center for Theatre and we're able to give N.U.R.T. a showcase at their home base. We hope to offer more free children's theater in the future."

Reservations and tickets are not required for the free productions and seats are available on a first-come, first-served basis. For more information, call the Niagara University Theatre Box Office at 286-8685.
