Pete's Market House celebrates 38 years

One doesn't encounter many extravagant 38th anniversary celebrations.

It's not a typical milestone. And in terms of significance, it ranks right up there with National Jelly Bean Day and the second guy in Wham.

But at a time in which the economy is slumping and businesses are closing left and right, Pete's Market House is going to throw a three-day party to mark its 38th year of operation.

"We're proud we've been here for a long time," said Debbie Spencer, who runs the Pine Avenue restaurant with her sisters, Donna Taylor and Lisa Rafe.

Since their parents, Lou and Marie Taylor, purchased the eatery in 1971, Spencer said Pete's Market House has experienced record-breaking sales and tremendous hardships. That it remains viable in 2009 is a testament to diligent service and delicious dishes.

"You get spoiled here," Spencer said. "That's why (customers) keep coming back."

In particular, "customers come back for our prime rib," she noted. "They can't beat the deal - and it's the best around."

So, while the economy has teetered, her family restaurant has remained steady.

"We try not to change," Spencer said. "Don't change a good thing."

From Sunday, Nov. 8, through Tuesday, Nov. 10, Pete's Market House will mark its anniversary with lunch and dinner specials, prizes and giveaways (including a children's bicycle).

"We thank our customers, because they are very loyal," Spencer said.

Some of the celebration's menu choices include: shrimp cocktail ($2.50 or $4.50 for a double portion); 10-ounce strip steak with three fried shrimp, potato, vegetable and bread and butter ($10.99); five-ounce marinated, grilled chicken breast with potato, vegetable and small salad ($5.95); grilled salmon with potato and vegetable ($8.75); and strawberry-topped cheesecake ($2.75).

Hours of operation for this three-day event are noon to 9 p.m. on Sunday, and 11:15 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday and Tuesday.

Pete's Market House, 1701 Pine Ave., Niagara Falls, is open for lunch and dinner seven days a week. For a reservation, call 282-7225.
