NU ‘Grey’s Night’ ABC’s hit show ‘Grey’s Anatomy’: What’s in store for the remainder of season six? Niagara University students dish on their favorite show by Olivia Bitetti
Every Thursday, there is a calm that sweeps almost every floor of girls on Niagara University’s campus at approximately 8:55 p.m. Hardly anyone can be found roaming the halls. Notes regarding the list of rules that should be abided between 9 and 10 p.m. can be found written on white boards hanging on various doors. These rules include, but are not limited to: “When you cry, cry silently.” “If you choose to speak, do so during a commercial only.” “If you leave, you may not re-enter and ask questions that you may have missed.” Not only does Niagara University participate in this sacred ritual, but people across the nation sit down together every Thursday night during this time of year and prepare for the epic show that we know as “Grey’s Anatomy.” “Every Thursday morning, I wake up knowing ‘Grey’s’ is on that night, and it gives me something to look forward to,” said Erin Laughlin, a sophomore at NU. In the final 2009 episode of season six of “Grey’s Anatomy,” titled “Holidaze,” we are left wondering what the new year will bring for the Seattle Grace and Mercywesters. Mark Sloan, otherwise known as “McSteamy,” undergoes a great shock as an 18-year-old walks into his life, revealing her identity as the love child he never knew about from a previous relationship. Sloan’s girlfriend, Lexie, feels threatened by the closeness of age she shares with his newly discovered daughter. She offers Sloan an ultimatum to start speaking to his daughter (whom he has been avoiding): Talk to your daughter, or sleep on the couch. Needless to say, Sloan does, in fact, talk to his daughter. He invites her to live with them, only to find out she is pregnant and has nowhere else to go. How will the new dad handle this situation? Will Lexie be supportive or will her jealously outweigh her better judgment? In another area of the hospital, Owen and Christina’s awkward love has hit a bit of turmoil when a best friend with an unspoken love interest, Teddy, comes to work alongside Christina in the cardio unit of the hospital. After accusing Owen of still being in love with Teddy, Christina reminisces on the few questionable looks she catches Owen and Teddy sharing. “At first, I had a suspicion that something might happen between the two (Teddy and Owen), but I was hoping for the best for Yang (Christina),” said Adrienne Law, a sophomore at NU who hosts “Grey’s” nights in her dorm room each Thursday night. The chief revisits his battle with alcoholism, but Meredith Grey knows about his dirty habit. She finds herself between a rock and a hard place being the only one who knows about the chief’s addiction. “I think that she should at least tell Derek because he is the only one that is the closest to him (chief) and would most likely try to help,” remarked Laughlin, an attendee of Law’s NU “Grey’s” gathering. After enjoying a Christmas dinner at Meredith and Derek’s, the chief ends up falling down drunk at a bar. The bartender, Joe, alerts Meredith of the situation and we are left wondering what will happen next on “Grey’s Anatomy” when the season continues in 2010. From being a dedicated “Grey’s Anatomy” fan myself, I believe that the new relationship between Sloan and his daughter will help, not hurt, his already strong relationship with Lexie. I think that Lexie will see how good Sloan can be with his daughter and find an endearing quality in it. In terms of Yang and Owen, I think there is something we have yet to find out about Teddy. I can see Owen rethinking his relationship with Yang and possibly attempting to begin a new one with Teddy. Also, it is impossible for Meredith to keep the secret about chief’s drinking for much longer. She must realize soon that, by keeping the secret, she is only hurting him. I do agree with Laughlin that she should, and most likely will, tell Derek. With an entertaining and unpredictable plot like “Grey’s Anatomy’s,” it is difficult to say what is in store in 2010 for the characters. However, it is easy to say that there is a never a dull moment in Seattle Grace and, undoubtedly, fans are in for a treat in the new year. So, if you can’t find anything to do at 9 p.m. on Jan. 14, 2010, grab a bowl of popcorn, gather up your friends, sit back, and watch the drama unfold on ABC’S “Grey’s Anatomy.” |
