Lewiston Dog Owners Group at Art Fest by Terry Duffy Among the many artists, exhibits and activities on tap at this year’s Lewiston Art Festival will be a newly formed group that is seeking to further its identity and build support. The Lewiston Dog Owners Group reports it will be visiting the festival this weekend, encouraging area dog owners to sign their petition in support for a dog park in the town and engaging other interested individuals to be a part of the newly formed organization. “As the prospects of a local dog park grow brighter, we are now shifting our focus to a membership drive for LDOG,” says Molly Chamberlain, group organizer. “We need people, along with their creative ideas, to continue growing the impact that this dedicated group of dog owners can provide.” She reports that interest and support for the dog park idea thus far continues to grow. Sites discussed have ranged from town parks and town-owned lands to the Artpark spoils area and Joseph Davis State Park. At present, the dog park concept remains only in the discussion stage with town and village officials approached with no actions taken. Nonetheless, Chamberlain remains upbeat on the dog park prospects her fledgling group seeks. “The Lewiston Dog Owners Group would like to thank all the individuals who have already signed one of our petitions and encourage others who have not yet signed to do so.” She also invites Art Fest attendees to keep an eye out for her group and stop by and learn more about the organization. “As the park becomes reality, the LDOG group will continue to work collaboratively to maintain the integrity and conditions of such a park. Essentially they will function as a ‘watch dog’ for the dog park and its users. “Stop by and say hello and ask us any questions you may have.” |
