Ransomville Lighting of the Wreaths Nov. 30

19th annual event to feature parade, open houses and Santa visit

Lewiston Porter Sentinel, November 15, 2008

Ransomville residents and visitors will kickoff the holiday season with the 19th annual Lighting of the Wreaths on Sunday, Nov. 30.

Event organizers, the Lower Niagara River Region Chamber of Commerce, together with the Lighting of the Wreaths Committee, report that old wreaths that once hung on the poles have been replaced with larger, more energy efficient replacements designed to last a long time. In addition to the new wreaths, it is asking area residents, organizations and businesses to display a wreath and make sure they're lit on that Sunday.

The festivities begin at 1 p.m. with the Santa Parade along Ransomville Road. This year's grand marshals are Lillian and Larry Neumann, Ransomville's oldest living residents, who will escort the jolly old elf himself into town. From 2 to 4 p.m., Santa will meet with area children at a gathering in the Historical Room of the Ransomville Library where each child will receive a gift.

Throughout the afternoon, Ransomville's version of the Christmas Walk will take place, when local businesses and retailers will hold open houses with door prizes and refreshments. Other festivities include a sock hop at Casey's Malt Shoppe and live music from local choral groups.

The event culminates with the lighting of the large wreath at the Ransomville gazebo at 4:30 p.m.
