Mount St. Mary's plans healthcare conference for women

"For Women Only, Take Care of Yourselves!  A Healthcare Conference for Women" will be held on Saturday, Nov. 8, at the Conference Center of Niagara Falls.

This daylong conference will feature nationally recognized speakers, a luncheon, fashion show, informational displays and a wide array of health information. Registration is $10 for the entire conference.

The day will open at 8 a.m. with registration and a healthy continental breakfast. At 9 a.m., the conference will begin with the keynote speaker, Faith Roberts of Urbana, Ill. Roberts is the Parish Nurse Program coordinator for the Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana and has experience in healthcare administration, education, and clinical practice.

At 10:15 a.m., there will be a series of informational displays including a cooking demonstration by Chef Richard LePree of The Barton Hill Hotel and Spa of Lewiston who has trained under some of the top chefs in the world; a Reiki demonstration by Carolyn Musial of The International Center of Reiki Training; a cosmetic makeover by Gregory LoBue from The Barton Hill Spa; and wine/cheese and chocolates courtesy of Lindt's Chocolates of the Fashion Outlets Niagara Falls USA and the Village Winery Tours of Lewiston.

At 11 a.m., participants will be able to select from a series of five programs:

"For Your Heart, Women and Heart Disease" featuring Mount St. Mary's Chief of Cardiology Dr. Zina Hajduczok; "For Your Diabetes, Dealing with Diabetes" featuring Mount St. Mary's Certified Diabetes Educator Debra Hoffman, RD; "For Women's Health, Screening for All Ages" by Dr. Rene Baughman of Obstetrics and Gynecology Associates of WNY, PC;  "For Fitness Health: Exercise Ball Class" featuring Susan Keegan, PT, DPT, senior director of Rehabilitation and physical therapy professionals from Mount St. Mary's (wear comfortable clothes); and "For Spiritual Health, Meaning of Life" featuring Carol Wolf of the St. Joseph Center for Spirituality in Clarence.

There will be a luncheon and fashion show at noon spotlighting fashions from stores at the Fashion Outlets.

The information sessions and demonstrations will be repeated in the afternoon.

Before the conference adjourns, everyone in attendance will be eligible for a special raffle from Southwest Airlines.

The entire program is sponsored by Frontier Industrial Corp, with support from the Fashion Outlets, Southwest Airlines, Niagara University Department of Nursing and the Niagara University Nursing Alumni Council, and media sponsor the Niagara Gazette.

Throughout the day, non-profit agencies from the Niagara Community will have displays along with numerous clinical departments of Mount St. Mary's Hospital.
