Lewiston-Porter Middle School celebrates its 50th Lewiston Porter Sentinel, April 5, 2008
Earlier this month Lewiston Porter Middle School hosted a special party for students and their families in honor of its 50th birthday. The party took place on Thursday evening, March 6, and consisted of fun games and memories from years gone by. Its theme was “50 Fabulous Years” where each grade level created a fun activity. The sixth grade teachers created a drive-in movie theater where they played old movies and sold popcorn, bottled soda and penny candy. Seventh grade teachers held a ‘50s style bingo game – complete with calling cards – and awarded free movie tickets as prizes. They also distributed a newspaper, which carried many retro themes and stories for the price of a canned good to be donated to a local soup kitchen. The eighth grade teachers sponsored a dance where Elvis, played by 14-year-old Anthony Carbone, an Elvis tribute artist, had the girls rockin’. And the Middle School’s special education teachers (art, music, gym, home and careers, and tech) held fun games in the gym reminiscing the days of old – complete with jump rope, hula hoops, dodge ball and badminton. Other activities included ice cream floats on sale for a quarter in the cafeteria, a book fair and Sabres memorabilia auctioned off in the library. Funds raised went to the stage fund in honor of Brett Wilczak.
