Islettes host Miss Majorette of NY Grand Island Dispatch, April 18, 2008
On Sunday, March 30, the Islettes Elite took on a monumental task of hosting the Miss Majorette of New York competition at Williamsville North High School. The annual competition attracts twirlers from around the state, participating in a pageant that highlights the combined skills of modeling, interview, twirling and strutting. Five Island girls were awarded Miss Majorette sashes: Alissa Bailey (Beginner Junior), Alyssa Fuoco (Novice Junior), Anna Nicolia (Novice Preteen) and Alison Ewert (Beginner Little Miss Majorette of New York). Also, Islander Miranda Proctor won Novice Little Miss Majorette of New York. For excellence in modeling and interview skills, the following Islettes where crowned Rose Queen: Emilee-jo Scheffler (Advanced Juvenile), Heather Murray (Beginner Juvenile), Katrina Buczkowski (Advanced Preteen) and Maddy Buczkowski (Advanced Junior Rose Queen). In team events the Islettes’ Elite won the Junior Parade Corps Championship, Junior Street Corps Championship and the Junior Beginner Large Dance Twirl Championship. The proceeds of the event will assist the Islettes National Team in their trip to the National Baton Championships this summer. The Islettes continue to prepare for the regional competition to be held in Beaver Falls, Pa., at the end of the month. The national team is also looking forward to participating in the National and World Championships in Indiana this summer and at Disney World next February.
