Go online for N-W schools information by Susan Mikula
Campbell Niagara-Wheatfield School District’s Web site has a brand new look. “I’ve been really embarrassed about the Web site for years,” Superintendent Judith H. Howard told Board of Education members last week. Unfortunately, she said, the district has a very small tech department. Over the summer, work was done to revamp the site. “It’s not ground breaking, but I think it has a professional appearance,” Howard said. The site, which will continue to be changed and updated, offers students, parents and teachers a wealth of information. There are staff directories, lunch menus, athletic schedules, upcoming events, employment, school closing information and even an alumni news tab. To find the site, just Google Niagara Wheatfield or go to www.nwcsd.k12.ny.us. In other matters at the Nov. 19 board meeting: •Howard and board members agreed that kudos are still pouring in on the renovations at the high school. Since bids came in lower than expected, the district was able to add most of the projects originally on the list of alternates that were to be done only if they could fit within the total cost for the project, such as the new fence around the football field. Howard originally had considered an opening celebration with ribbon-cutting later this fall, but now is considering spring when all signage and landscaping will be completed. This will coincide with the district’s 50th anniversary celebration. •Howard warned there might be some warnings and parking tickets issued to people who still park on the grass near the athletic fields. Part of the high school renovation was the addition of parking spaces. “There’s no excuse for people to be parking on the lawn,” said Howard, who considers walking the campus part of her daily exercise. She challenged the lawn parkers, “It’s part of the Niagara-Wheatfield physical fitness program – get out of your car and walk.” •A reception was held prior to the board meeting for educators receiving tenure with the school district after having served three years. Teachers receiving tenure were: Elizabeth Bernadone, Leslie Mulligan, Julie DiMatteo, Brandi Trapasso, Tammy Ives Dobe, Eric Tucker, Katie Zuccari, Brooke Harris, Katie Henninger, Aliscia Krecisz, Beatrice Arnone, Jennifer Frank, Caroline Kashmanian, Melissa Gould and Erica Tortorella. Michelle Spasiano received tenure in administration. |
