Winetique returns to Sanborn Lewiston Porter Sentinel, September 29, 2007
Following a successful inaugural event last October, the Winetique Festival returns to Sanborn for its second year on Sunday, Oct. 14. Hosted by the Sanborn Business and Professional Association, in cooperation with the Lower Niagara River Region Chamber of Commerce, the Winetique will be held on the grounds of the Sanborn Fire Company, 5811 Buffalo St. in Sanborn. Beginning at 11 a.m. and continuing through 5 p.m., the Winetique Festival includes antique vendors and a selection of wines from Niagara County wineries. Co-sponsors for the Winetique Festival include HSBC Bank, Niagara County Community College, Frontier Communications, the Town of Lewiston and Andy’s Tree Service. Organizers report that one of the many happenings to check out that day is the recipe contest, and they are currently seeking participants. Whip up your favorite apple or pumpkin recipe and head to the second annual Sanborn Winetique Festival. Co-chairs of the event, Anne Wojick of the Spotted Hen Restaurant in Sanborn and NCCC culinary arts student Mary Beth Oliphant, report there is no need to pre-register, but all participants must feature either apples or pumpkins in their dish in one of three categories: appetizer/side dish, entrée and dessert/other. Applications can be found at the Chamber Web site at www.northofthefalls.com or by calling Bonnie Haskell at 990-6909. They note that all entries must be brought to the Sanborn Fire Company, 5811 Buffalo St., between 11 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. on Oct. 14. Entries received after 12:30 p.m. will not qualify for the contest. Two typed copies of the recipe must accompany each dish and have the contestant’s name and phone number of the back of one recipe. Recipes will be judged based on taste, originality, ease of preparation and presentation. First and second prizes will be awarded in each category. All recipes must contain either apples or pumpkins. Participants will need to have their entry in a disposable dish, as festival organizers will not be responsible for returning dishes. For more information on the overall festival or the recipe contest, contact Haskell, visit the Chamber Web site, or call 754-9500. Readers may also contact the Chamber’s events hotline for the River Region covering Lewiston, Youngstown, Ransomville and Sanborn at 754-7030. |
