A-mazing attraction reopens in Wheatfield Niagara Wheatfield
Tribune, August 30, 2007
A business that invites you to “Get Lost!” is back in Wheatfield for its seventh season. MAiZE, operated by the Garland family at 3901 Niagara Falls Boulevard, is open through Oct. 31 with eight acres of cornfields and new maze designs. Get lost by daylight or moonlight from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily. Friday and Saturday, there are Flashlight Nights until 11 p.m. Cost is $7 for ages 12 and up, $5 for ages 3 to 11 and free for children 2 and under. A Combo Pass is available for $10 and includes admission, a 20-ounce drink, kettle korn and three activity tickets. Next week, Sept. 3 to 7, is Back to School Week. A free school pack comes with youth admission and teachers with identification are admitted free.
New this season is the 2007 Buffalo Bandits maze design. The Garlands hope to challenge the wits of those seeking the one and only exit from their puzzle. Though the correct pathway can be walked in under 30 minutes, most wanderers will require about one hour to travel through more than two miles of twists, turns, bridges and decision points. “We are excited to team up with the Bandits to encourage family outings,” said Traci Garland. “The games are a great place to take the kids. Maze goers will learn more about the sport and the team with the Buffalo Bandits Passport.” A series of interactive passports are available at the MAiZE. Each contains 10 questions that quiz the user on a chosen subject. Those who answer the questions correctly will receive clues that guide them along the correct path to the exit. Customized activities have been added for corporate team building, company picnics, fund raising and maze competitions. Other attractions and activities are available on the grounds. Sticky Stampede is a farm-themed, 40-foot long, inflatable obstacle course. Dueling Cannons allows visitors to shoot ears of corn at targets and win prizes, including free admission to the MAiZE. Mrs. Potts Bakery offers fresh-baked pies and pastries. The Old McDonald’s Farm Market has fresh produce, pumpkins, corn stalks and harvest décor. Pet and feed the goats or send the youngsters to play at the Kid Corral or to the 27-foot inflatable Sabretooth tiger slide. Trick or Treat Character Hayrides will be offered from 1 to 4 p.m. every Saturday and Sunday beginning Oct. 7. Costumed characters toss candy and prizes into the wagon as its travels the hayride route.
