Kiwanis peach recipe contest under way

As part of its many events for the 50th anniversary of the Niagara County, aka Lewiston Kiwanis Peach Festival, Sept. 7-9 at Academy Park in the Village of Lewiston, Lewiston Kiwanis officials have announced that they will be holding a Peach Recipe Contest Taste-off, Friday, Sept. 7, beginning at 6 p.m. at the park, and area residents are invited to participate.

Kiwanis reports that interested residents may submit their original peach recipe in one of the following categories: cake, pie and all other deserts. Recipes should be sent to: Peach Festival Taste-Off, 310 Niagara St., Niagara Falls, N.Y. 14303. Deadline for submitting recipes is Wednesday, Aug. 22.

Judges named for the Taste-Off include: Lynn Catalano, executive director of the Mount St. Mary’s Hospital Foundation; Vicki DeVantier, homemaker; Angelo Calbone, past president and CEO of the Mount St. Mary’s Hospital and Health Center; Mark Mistriner, pastry professor at Niagara County Community College; and Tom George, owner of the Villa Coffee House in Lewiston.

The judges will select 10 finalists from all the entered recipes. These 10 will then compete in the Friday evening Taste-Off at Academy Park.

The winner of the Taste-Off will receive a $100 U.S. Savings Bond; other prizes will be awarded to the top 10 entries.

Kiwanis adds that all 10 finalists will be displaying their desserts in the Peach Tent at Academy Park.
