GI Lions name scholarship winners Grand Island Dispatch, July 13, 2007
The Grand Island Lions Club announced this week that its 2007 Adrian P. Pollock Student Service Scholarship has been awarded to four members of the Grand High School Class of 2007. Shown in the above photo are this year’s winners with Grand Island Lions officials. They include (left to right) Abram Morgan, Diane Dubiel, first vice president of the Grand Island Lions, Andrea Monaco, Donald Turner III, Grand Island Lion Al Ackerman, and Nicholas Shemik. Each student will receive a $500 scholarship towards his or her college education. Grand Island Lion Paul Bassette reports the scholarship primarily focuses on an individual student’s community service and volunteer activities, but also considers such criteria as academic excellence, school activities, a 300-word essay on the topic of community service strengthening our democratic society, plus written formal recommendations.
