Old Glory Flag sponsors Thunder of Niagara coloring contest

Niagara Wheatfield Tribune, June 21, 2007

At Colonial Village School, Miss Marsh’s second-graders had a visit on May 31 from Capt. John Walp, 914th Airlift Wing, Public Affairs Office, and Master Sgt. Bill Geary, a flight engineer with the 914th Airlift Wing. The military personnel met with the students to help kick off the Thunder of Niagara 2007 Air Show Coloring Contest. The coloring sheets are represented below.

Old Glory Flag and Banner of Niagara Falls is the official sponsor of the Thunder of Niagara Air Show Coloring Contest for children in kindergarten through second grade.

Military personnel from the Niagara Falls Air Reserve Station met with students at Colonial Village Elementary School last month to help kick off the coloring contest.

This year’s air show, commemorating the 60th anniversary of the U.S. Air Force, is being held on Aug. 11 and 12 at the Niagara Falls Air Reserve Station. “Our community has been very supportive of our troops and the Niagara Falls Air Reserve Station. Now we are giving students an opportunity to get involved,” said Jennifer Cooper, president of Old Glory Flag.

The air show is one of the largest community events in Western New York, said air base Public Affairs Officer Neil Nolf. “The purpose of the coloring contest is to allow younger children to be involved in the success of the event with their participation,” Nolf said. “We believe that it will foster pride and patriotism for all who participate.

Information regarding the contest, as well as the coloring sheet designs featuring the USAF Thunderbirds and the Bell X-1 aircraft, can be obtained online at www.oldgloryflag.com. Teachers can reproduce the coloring sheet from the Web site for their students. The student can choose either of the two coloring sheets available.

The coloring sheets are also available for pickup at Old Glory Flag and Banner, 7350 Porter Road, Town of Niagara. Store hours are Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Saturday, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The store is closed on Sunday.

All entries must have on the back of the sheet: the name, address and current school grade of the contestant, as well as a contact name, address and phone number.

Officials of the Thunder of Niagara Air Show will judge the entries, and contest winners will be notified by mail.

Prizes will be awarded during week of the air show. U. S. Savings bonds in the amount of $100 will be awarded to the winner in each grade category. Second and third prizes will also be awarded. All entries must be submitted to Old Glory Flag and Banner, 7350 Porter Road, Town of Niagara, no later than July 3.
