The Lewiston Democratic Committee has announced its slate of candidates for the various town races this year. Circulation of petitions began June 12 and will continue through July 19. The Committee has endorsed the following candidates in this year’s races:

•Town of Lewiston Supervisor: incumbent Fred Newlin, who is credited with eliminating the town tax, successfully holding out for more cheap hydropower from the New York Power Authority, and leads Lewiston’s efforts to reduce residential electrical bills.

•Town of Lewiston Town Board: incumbent Michael Johnson, well-known for his diligent work during his 12 years on the board, particularly concerning shared services, as well as his work in the local commercial real estate market; and Mark Sarro, an employee of Dephi in Lockport with more than 13 years experience working in budgetary and supervisory capacities in private industry, and who holds bachelor’s degrees in both accounting and business management as well as a masters degree in business administration.

•Town of Lewiston Highway Superintendent: David Knapp, a lifelong Lewiston resident and political newcomer with more than 20 years of experience in the local construction industry, who is well-known in Lewiston for his involvement in the town’s recreation programs and as a baseball coach in the Town’s summer recreation program.

Chair Diane Roberts reports the Committee is enthusiastically supporting the candidacy of Jerry Mosey for the Niagara County Legislature in the 12th District, and also endorsed incumbents Carol Brandon for Lewiston town clerk and Lewiston Town Justices Thomas Sheeran and Hugh Gee for re-election.
