Thunder on Niagara draws crowd

Grand Island Dispatch, June 8, 2007

Boat enthusiasts enjoy the sprays of the hydroplane races at Gratwick Riverside Park in North Tonawanda, across from Grand Island’s eastern shore, last weekend.

As the large hydroplanes race by on the river, a couple of young boat enthusiasts check out the radiocontrolled model boats at Thunder on the Niagara last Saturday. The display is a new addition to the event, set up by the Western New York Radio-controlled Model Boat Club. The types of model hulls include Tunnel, V-Hull, Hydroplane and Catamarans, some reaching speeds of 70 miles per hour.
