Focus on
falcons
Grand Island
Dispatch, June 22, 2007
Peregrine falcon chicks that nest with their parents
under the North Grand Island Bridge were the focus of a time-sensitive
and interesting project on Tuesday. State employees of the Thruway
Authority and the Department of Environmental Conservation teamed
up to remove the chicks from their nest and get them “banded” for
identifi cation and tracking purposes. They checked to make sure
their health was tiptop – it was – then returned them to their
nest. One of the workers put on a crazy cap that just suited the
morning’s task. (photos by Joe Eberle)
