Students of Excellence honored Grand Island Dispatch, June 22, 2007 Forty-one students from 14 different local high schools were recognized for scholarship, leadership and community service at the 23rd annual Niagara PAL Brian Swayze Memorial Students of Excellence Awards Dinner on June 10. Three students from Grand Island High School were honored: Sarah Mye, Caroline Boron and Sydney Seese. Niagara PAL Scholarship winner: Sarah Mye Mye is the daughter of Christine Amabile. She is a member of the National Honor Society and served as treasurer of the Spotlighters, Masterminds and Interact Clubs, and participated in school plays and musicals, community theatre productions and the Relay For Life. Mye plans to attend the University at Buffalo to major in biology and theater. Niagara Falls Police Club Leadership Award winner: Caroline Boron Boron is the daughter of Eric and Beth Boron. She served four years on the Student Council, including a term as treasurer and president, was on the Principal’s Advisory Committee and the search committee for the assistant principal. She participated in softball, track and field and cross country, earning scholar-athlete recognition. She is in the wind ensemble, concert choir, concert band, in school musicals and was treasurer of the Madrigals. She plans to attend SUNY Brockport to major in journalism and communications. Brian Swayze Service Award winner: Sydney Seese Seese is the daughter of Mark and Jeanne Seese. She is a member of the National Honor Society, she served as president and vice-president of SADD, as class officer, secretary of the choir and Humanities Club, treasurer of Madrigals and the Humanities Club, as a member of the Student Council and a math tutor. She was also recognized in All-County Chorus as Math Student of the Month and with a Pride of the Island award. She plans to attend Houghton College and major in music and Spanish education. |
