Board hires part-time police officer

The Town of Niagara Town Board added another name to the roster of cops during Tuesday’s monthly board meeting.

The board unanimously appointed Todd Faddoul as a part-time police officer in the Town of Niagara Police Department following a short executive session.

Faddoul grew up in the Town of Niagara

He had previously applied, but at the time the department didn’t have an opening, said Police Chief Jim Suitor. Currently, the department is short staffed because of two officers on sick leaves, one full-time and one part-time.

“We’re erring on the side of caution right now,” Suitor said of the appointment, noting the projected return dates of the other officers will be clearer in May or June.

Also at the meeting:

•The board made moves to hire three temporary employees in the Highway Department and Water and Sewer Department.

•The board voted to accept equipment from the Department of Homeland Security and authorized the Town of Niagara Police Department to send Officer Kellie Treis for training on the equipment in New Orleans. Treis and Suitor will also attend a child passenger safety conference in Buffalo in June. (See page 9 for a related stories.)

•The board approved the final site plan application of APD Engineering, lead agent for Sam’s Club at 5535 Porter Road, contingent on the engineer’s comments.

•Approved the purchase of a 2007 Dodge Charger with an extended warranty at a cost of $23,685.18.

•The board left tabled a resolution to renew a contract with Rural/Metro Ambulance.

•Supervisor Steve Richards said the town is looking for senior citizens who would like to have volunteering college and high school students perform yard work. The students are volunteering through HANCI. Call Richards at Town Hall, 297-2150.
