Porter Dems announce support of Oddy Lewiston Porter Sentinel, April 7, 2007 This May, for the first time in many years, village of Youngstown residents will have a choice in party representation in their voting of village elected officials, reports the Porter Democratic Committee. Village caucuses were held on Monday evening to receive nominations for the office of mayor and two village trustees – the three positions that will be decided by voters in the May 15 election. The Porter Democratic Committee has announced its support of William Oddy, a Democrat, who won its nomination for village trustee. A life-long resident of the village, he and his wife, the former Kathy Eagan, are the parents of two boys, Jake and Ben. Oddy is employed as a mechanical designer at Cannon Design on Grand Island, and is a life member of the Youngstown Volunteer Fire Co., an organization he has served actively for over 25 years. In the absence of Democratic candidates, the Porter Democratic Committee reports that two Republicans – incumbent Peggy Hanson and former trustee Karl Bykowski -- will appear on the Democratic line in the May election. Incumbent Trustee Tony Collard is not seeking re-election. In addition, the Committee reports that incumbent GOP Mayor Neil Riordan will also appear on the Democratic line. A newly formed group, the Porter Democratic Committee, is committed to the organizing of Democrats and the promotion of a balanced government and choice for town of Porter residents. Meetings are held the third Wednesday of each month at the Youngstown Village Red Brick Municipal Hall and Porter Democrats interested in participating or contributing are encouraged to attend. For further information, contact Bill Choboy, committee chair, at 745-7790. |
