AARP tax preparers honored Lewiston Porter Sentinel, April 28, 2007 A reception was held at the John Duke Senior Center in Niagara Falls on Tuesday, April 17, to thank nearly 20 local volunteers who helped the hundreds of people in Niagara Falls, Lewiston and the surrounding area prepare their taxes this year. The service is provided free of charge throughout the nation through the AARP Tax Aide Program. The service not only offers free tax return preparation, but also free e-Filing which speeds refunds and minimizes paperwork for the IRS. The IRS has offered assistance to the AARP volunteers for many years and their local representative was on hand to thank the volunteers for their many hours of service. During the reception, three people were honored for their extended years of service.
Shown above are, from left, Ralph Kullmann, honored for 20 years service; Phillip Poanessa with 25 years; Greg Gerfin, IRS senior tax specialist; Keith Fox, state coordinator for AARP Tax Aide; and Alice Shimer, local coordinator with 20 years service. |
