Jinny Myers-Parks is the newest member of the Lewiston Public Library Board of Trustees. The Lower River Road resident takes the seat of Gretchen Denk, who died this year.

“She (Denk) was a great advocate for the library. Now, I’m going to try to fill her shoes in some small way,” Myers-Parks said. “I love the library. I really love the library. I have spent so much time there.”

Myers-Parks remembers that when she and her husband, Ken, decided to move to Lewiston about 12 years ago, the library was part of that decision. They had checked a real estate review that rated different communities. Among the pluses listed for Lewiston was the number of books per person available at the library, she said.

When her son Dominic, now 15, was just 3 or 4 years old, she started taking him to story hour at the Lewiston Public Library, which he loved. She remembers that he’d leave the library with his nose stuck in a book, holding onto the belt of her coat for steerage. The Canisius High School sophomore still has a real love of books, she said.

In other library news:

The Children’s Room needs volunteers willing to adopt a shelf to keep a section of picture books tidy and in order for the months of April, May and June.

Also, book dividers are needed to better organize the Children’s Collection and can be purchased in honor of a child or loved one for $5 or $10 depending on size. Each will come with a bookplate, e.g.: “J” for Jeremy from Mom and Dad Smith. See Lorraine Yeager, children’s librarian for details of these programs.
