Happy Birthday, WBA photos and story
by Larry Austin
The Wheatfield Business Association began its yearlong 40th birthday celebration with installation of new officers and accolades from dignitaries and supporters. Held at the St. Johnsburg Fire Company Saturday night, the installation celebrated 40 years of service to the Wheatfield business community. County Legislator William Ross credited the “pioneers” of the organization, who were noted in last week’s issue of the Tribune, and said the WBA is so important for economic, social and networking reasons. Ross also mentioned the group’s input in solving problems related to the ongoing rehabilitation of Route 62. “By getting together, you are doing a service to the town of Wheatfield residents and the Niagara community because you’re making for a better product and excellent services,” he said.
Town Supervisor Timothy Demler said the 40th anniversary was an important milestone. Demler said one community, the town of Wheatfield, is growing and outpacing the productivity of any other community in Western New York. “You look at a business community that works hand-in-hand with the government,” Demler said. “If it weren’t for the efforts of our business community, all of you, the businesses of Wheatfield, and if it weren’t for the efforts of the elected officials I’m standing with here, a lot of those innovative ideas, a lot of the new programs, and the tax relief programs that we’ve instituted here in the town, would never have taken place.” “So this is truly a milestone.” President Tom Stevenson thanked those in attendance and said the group, founded in 1967, has stayed true to its original mission and has expanded to 107 members today. Stevenson said he was also honored to be sworn into a post once held by his father, James T. Stevenson.
