Town Common dedicated to Marion Klingel

Grand Island Dispatch, February 9, 2007

Town Board members issued a proclamation dedicating the Town Common to the late Marion E. Klingel, who was a community leader, the Island’s town historian and a noted journalist. Accepting the proclamation is Klingel’s daughter, Teddy Linenfelser, center, who is current town historian and a journalist with Isledegrande.com. Klingel was a longtime editor and reporter with the Island Dispatch and correspondent for the Buffalo News. The proclamation commemorated the 100th anniversary of Marion Klingel’s birthday and
recognized her 60 years of contributions to the community. She was primary dispatcher for the Grand Island Fire Company and a Girl Scout and Brownie leader for many years. She was a four-time winner of the Chamber of Commerce’s Citizen of the Year Award, and was named Erie County Senior Citizen of the Year in 1991. (photo by Karen Keefe)
