Indoor track records fall Grand Island Dispatch, January 12, 2007 Last year’s Grand Island indoor track team had some excellent performances, and this year’s squad is no different. After one month of the indoor season, the Vikings have broken four school records. Leading the onslaught is senior co-captain Tim Fargino as he continues to top the leader board in Section VI. Currently, Fargino leads in the 300-meter, 600-meter and 1,000-meter with impressive times in all three. His 300 time is just .12 from the school record held by John Connors, now at the University of Buffalo. His 600m time in only .4 from his own record, and he broke his 1,000m record with a 2:36.87 by more than 8 seconds. Evan Tsembelis broke Fargino’s mile record with a 4:43.01 performance. Tim Boorady broke the indoor shot put record held by Mike Feathers, now at Clemson, with a 46-foot, 3-inch effort. Junior Meaghan Hayes broke the 55m hurdle record held by Cory Angelo with a 11.51 mark. Over Christmas break, other members of the team had good performances as well. Davis Nelson and Jordan Gibson had their best times in the 600m, while Joe Connors, co-captain Kyle Oursler, Darathon “Best” Aunchaleenukoul and Matt Krupszak had their best performances in the sprints. Chris Carter ran his best 1,600m time, breaking 5:00. Kelly Cich is running well in the 300m and 600m along with Ellen Betterson, Sarah Orsolits and Cheema Simarjot. Junior co-captain Caitlyn Driscoll is improving in both the 1,000m (third at the Fredonia meet) and the 300m. Kelsey Mash has shown great improvement in both the 55m and 55m hurdles. This week, the team will compete in the Frosh-Soph Invite and the WNY Relays. |
