Hoover takes first place at gymnastics meet

The Niagara Gymnastics team began their 2006-2007 competitive season at the 20th annual Pinky Stone Invitational, held at the Oncenter in Syracuse.

Jessica Hoover, of Wheatfield, captured first place in the Senior Division with 36.025. Hoover earned 9.6 and first place on floor, 9.3 and second place on vault, and 8.95 and fourth place on bars.

Deanna Favero from Youngstown, a Level 10 gymnast, took fourth place all-around in the Senior Division with 35.55. She placed third on balance beam with 9.025, third on floor with 9.00, fourth on vault with 9.25, and sixth on uneven bars. Her sister, Andrea Favero, competed in her first Level 9 meet, where she placed seventh all-around with 33.95. She also placed sixth on uneven bars with 8.55 and 7th on vault with 8.85.

Kelley Feather of Tonawanda scored 9.2 and fourth place on floor, 8.8 and fifth place on balance beam and 10th place all around. Ashley Lavocat of North Tonawanda took ninth place on balance beam with a score of 8.7.

In the Junior Division, Shelinka Cunningham of Niagara Falls scored 9.075 and eighth place on vault, 9.125 on floor and captured ninth place all around. Emilie Fose of North Tonawanda scored 9.3 and fourth place on vault, 9.45 and fifth place on floor. Samantha Johnson of North Tonawanda took eighth place on bars with 9.1 and scored 9.0 on vault.

For the Level 7 team, Brittany Wurl from North Tonawanda placed sixth on the beam with 8.85. Nicholl Martin, also from North Tonawanda, took eighth place on vault with 9.2. Miranda Danielewicz from Cambria placed sixth on bars with 9.4, seventh on vault with 9.25, and eighth on floor with 9.125.
