Grand Island raced to an 8-0 lead to start its girls basketball game against perennial power Holy Angels last Friday and never looked back in a 49-33 win. The Vikings added a 58-25 win over Tonawanda on Tuesday.

GI played most of the first half without their top scorer, Courtney Donovan, who left the game after four minutes after receiving her second personal foul. The Vikings didn’t miss a beat, however, and extended their lead from 10-0 at Donovan’s departure to 28-12 at halftime.

Donovan finished the game with 17 points as GI’s lead was never seriously challenged. Kallie Banker added 9 points for GI and Mallory Griffiths, 7. Point guard Amber Duda and Catie Hilliard added 6 apiece.

Griffiths led all scorers with 22 points in the win over the Warriors on Tuesday. Donovan added a dozen points.
