Holy Ghost Lutheran to hold German Christkindl Market Niagara Wheatfield Tribune, November 23, 2006 Holy Ghost Lutheran School’s fellowship hall will be lined with festive stands featuring unique hand-made crafts and traditional treats during the upcoming Holy Ghost Christmas Market. On Saturday, Dec. 2, a German Christkindl Market, or Christ Child Market, will be open from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sponsored by the Holy Ghost Parent Teacher League, Christkindl will include a Christmas craft show with over 35 vendors, a silent auction, book faire, bake sale, and lunch featuring German sausage and sauerkraut as well as traditional faire. The tradition of the Christmas market dates to 16th century Germany when craftsmen erected stalls in the heart of German cities with food, drink and entertainment to meet the demand for purchasing presents after Martin Luther had set the fashion in 1545 of giving presents to children at Christmas. Holy Ghost Lutheran School is located at 6630 Luther
St., Bergholz. |
