Youngstown Lions have announced this year’s Peace Poster Winners.” From the left, judges Sandy Olsen and Michael Beam display the Lewiston-Porter first and second place winners’ artwork produced by Quinn Patton and Johnna Bolender, respectively. Third place in the contest went to Taylor Deitzer and Erin Klettke took honorable mention.

The Youngstown Lions Club reports that its sponsorship of the International Lions Peace Poster Contest is in full swing. For the third year Lewiston-Porter Middle School students created peace posters. Students’ posters were judged and entered into the worldwide contest to select one winner from over 350,000 entries. This year’s theme is “Celebrate Peace,” said Mel Shahin, coordinator for the Youngstown Lions Club.

The students at Lew-Port produced posters under the supervision of their teachers, Cathy Burns and Terri Savery. Their artwork is on display at the Lewiston Public Library now through Nov. 6. Entries were judged by Sandy Olsen, director of UB Art Galleries, and Michael Beam, curator of Exhibits and Collections at Niagara University’s Castellani Art Museum.

Lew-Port Middle has been recognized with three winners, who will receive prizes of $50, $30, and $20. First place was awarded to Quinn Patton, second to Johnna Bolender, and third to Taylor Deitzer. Honorable mention went to Erin Klettke.

The top winner will advance to the Western New York Lions District judging. Internationally, several runners-up awards are presented. The worldwide winner will receive a $2,500 prize, plus a trip to New York City for the awards ceremony at Lions Day with the United Nations.
