Aces ride out the Storm, Flames heat up in B.I.H.G. action

Grand Island Dispatch, November 24, 2006
by Rich Gurbacki

After a week’s hiatus because of participation in tournaments in Philidelphia, the Buffalo In-line Hockey Group picked up last Saturday with a full slate of games.

The Black Aces entered Saturday on top of the major division not having lost all year, but found themselves down 6-5 to the Storm with only 2:54 to play. Grand Island’s David Campuzano tied it up at that time and Amherst’s John Lyons scored the winning tally some 40 seconds later. It was a tough loss for the Storm, who got all their scoring from Cheektowga’s Justin Banaszak. Campuzano led the Aces with a couple goals and 3 assists.

Junior division

The Blue Flames took a couple wins on Saturday, beating the division leaders, the 535’s, in a shootout when Mike Wesolowski (Lancaster) and Adam Terragnoli (Williamsville) scored. The Flames would later beat the Hurricanes 4-1. Zac Carslisle (Cheektowaga) scored twice for the Flames in the win. P.J. Anderson (Amherst) was strong in both wins for the Flames.

In other major division play, the Red Raiders cruised to a 7-3 triumph over Team X with Pat Smith (Amherst) netting yet another hat trick. Austin Newman (Tonawanda) tallied twice for the Raiders. This stage of the season finds the Aces atop the major division with the Hornets and Raiders tied for second. Pat Smith leads the major division with 17 goals while David Campuzano leads the league in assists and points. The 535’s continue to lead the junior division with the Flames surging into second place. Jim Krolikowski (Cheektowaga) leads in goals and Evan Dressel (Amherst), in points.

Buffalo In-line Hockey Group is the premier youth in-line hockey league in Erie County and plays every Saturday morning in two age groups at the EPIC Center on Wehrle Drive in Amherst. New players are always welcome. Call 773-1188 or 689-4090 for more information.
