GI golfers split matches

Grand Island Dispatch, October 6, 2006

Grand Island’s golfers won three of six matches, including a win over the first place team in the Niagara Frontier League.

Grand Island beat Niagara-Wheatfield 14 1/2 to 9 1/2 Sept. 19 at Tan Tara as Jeremy Chopra (4 points), Chase Cedrone (3 1/2) and Casey Olslewski (3 points) led the Vikings with a total of 10 1/2 of the team’s 14 1/2 points. Larry Loveless was medalist with a stroke score of 39 and he tied his match 2-2.

The Vikings recorded another win Sept. 21 against Kenmore East, 15-9. Chris Rajczak (40) led the Vikings with 3 1/2 points. Olslewski (medalist with a 38), Chopra (43) and Cedrone (45) all had 3-point victories for Grand Island.

After two convincing wins earlier in the week, the Vikings dropped a 16-8 decision to Kenmore West. Olslewski was the medalist for the second time this week with a 37. He also had the only victory for the Vikings with 3 1/2 points. Rajczak (40) tied his match, earning 2 points.

On Sept. 25 at the Deerwood Country Club, GI showed no mercy on league-leading North Tonawanda (7-2), beating them 14 1/2 to 9 1/2. Rajczak led the team to victory and earned medalist honors as he carded a par round of 36 for 3 1/2 points. Loveless (38, 3 points), Olslewski (40, 3 1/2 points), and Cedrone (40, 2 1/2 points) all won their matches.

Two days after dominating the first-place team, Grand Island dropped a disappointing 16-8 match against Lew-Port. Cedrone (44) was the only Grand Island golfer to win a match, beating his opponent 3-1. Olslewski carded a 41 and tied his match.

On Friday, GI dropped a close match to Lockport 14-10. Olslewski continued his consistent golf with Anthony Daubney, both winning their matches 2 1/2 to 1 1/2. Rajczak won medalist honors with a 37. He and Loveless tied their matches.
