Foundation to honor distinguished GIHS alumni

The Distinguished Alumni Award Committee of the Grand Island Foundation for Education has been busy with the preliminary work of initiating an annual award to outstanding Grand Island High School alumni.

The committee would like to have input and suggestions from any member of the community who would like to help honor individuals who have distinguished themselves through professional achievement and/or contributions to society.

It is not necessary to be Grand Island High School alumni to participate in the committee. The members encourage newcomers to join the Foundation’s meeting on Monday, Oct. 16.

The committee is also seeking nominations for alumni to receive this award. Forms are available on the school district Web site, www.k12.ginet.org (look under “School Support Organizations”). In addition, hard copies are available at the district office.

The Foundation will honor the first recipients of this award at a spring 2007 assembly at the high school. The recipients’ names will also be permanently displayed in the Viking Mall.
