Modern Corporation of Lewiston presented a check of $3,000 to Lewiston Porter Youth Football Saturday to help keep kids on the gridiron this fall.

Lew Port Youth Football President and Head Coach David Ankenbauer called the sponsorship by Modern “the most significant event for our organization in many years.” He added that Modern Corporation was the only company to step forward as a sponsor for the LPYF organization.

The LPYF program was founded in 1968 and provides youth football, cheerleading and dance programs for participants in towns of Lewiston and Porter. The LPYF has approximately 200 participants ranging from ages 6 to 14 years old.

Ankenbauer wrote Richard Washuta, president of Modern Corporation, earlier this season and said that as an all volunteer and non-profit organization, LPYF’s escalating costs for equipment, supplies, and operations were causing a “substantial cash flow crisis this year.”

“Support from a local corporate leader has become essential to our survival,” Ankenbauer wrote. “When thinking of major corporations in Lewiston, of course Modern is the first one to come to mind. I am also pleased to know of your past and continued support to other local youth and athletic organizations.”
