Sisters gather to learn, promote peace

Sisters of St. Francis from Stella Niagara, who sponsor The Buffalo Academy of the Sacred Heart, Stella Niagara Education Park, Stella Niagara Center of Renewal and Francis Center in Niagara Falls, joined others of their Congregation from Denver, Colo., and from Redwood City, Calif., for Convocation 2006 in Millbrae, Calif.

More than 175 sisters and associates engaged in conversations around the theme of “Seek the Vision – Share the Wisdom – Embrace the Circle.” Participants joined in conversation circles to discuss topics that included peace, community, aging, relationships, understanding Islam, the future and internationality. Acting as facilitator, Wheaton Franciscan Sister Gabrielle Uhlein challenged the group to identify the blessings that will carry them into the future.

Keenly aware of war and violence in the world, the sisters and associates committed themselves to promoting peace wherever possible and to oppose military action taken in their names.
