Wilson Boat House hosts ‘Country Jamboree’ by Joshua Maloni Thanks to a successful summer season and the rising popularity of country music in Wilson, the Boat House on Harbor Street is extending its weekend music series through Nov. 1. Moreover, it’s hosting a “Jamboree” on Saturday, Sept. 2, from 5 to 11 p.m. That event features bands including Stone Country, Steam Donkeys, The “All Hank” Band and Runaway Train. “We felt there was a need to have more country music played out here in Wilson,” said Gary “GK” Kelchlin, the music and promotions director at the Boat House. “There hasn’t been a push for country. “We figure we’d give it a try.” The “Country Jamboree” will feature food and drink specials – including traditional grill items such as hamburgers and clams – rides on land from Hartland Carriage and in the water on Duffy boats. Beyond next weekend’s event, the venue boasts 10 Buffalo Music Hall of Fame bands in its fall lineup – all on nights with no cover charge. It’s also hosting a free show with a rising Irish band from New York City, Eileen Fogarty and The Very Best, on Friday, Oct. 20. “We’ve gone to great lengths to get the best bands we could,” Kelchlin said. For those who don’t especially love country music, the Wilson Boat House offers new music each Sunday – everything from ’50s rock to reggae. “We cover the gamut,” Kelchlin said.
