Niagara Wheatfield Tribune, June 22, 2006
Lewiston Porter Sentinel, June 24, 2006

Lauren Loos, a student in Niagara University’s College of Business Administration, has been awarded the William G. McGowan Scholarship for the 2006-07 academic year. Loos, a native of Lancaster, is on track to graduate in May of 2007 with a bachelor of science degree in commerce and a concentration in marketing.

In addition to her studies, Loos, a dean’s list member, is also a member of the university’s NCAA Division I soccer team. She mentors young children at Niagara’s women’s soccer camps and is a recruiting coordinator for Niagara University’s marketing association.

The McGowan Charitable Fund has established a program, the McGowan Scholars, to provide selected colleges and universities with scholarships to help students who wish to pursue a business education. The program is based on the experience of MCI Communications founder William G. McGowan during his college days. Though admitted to Harvard Business School to study for an MBA degree, he did not have sufficient funds to complete his studies. However, he won Harvard's Baker Scholars Award, which provided the funds necessary for him to earn his degree and launch a successful business career.
