Reynolds secures $500,000 for road construction in Niagara County Niagara Wheatfield Tribune, June 22, 2006 The U.S. House of Representatives has approved in its session on June 14 a request from U.S. Rep. Thomas Reynolds, R-26th District, for a federal investment of $500,000 for construction and safety improvements to Townline Road in Niagara County. The funding, which will be included as part of a transportation spending bill for the 2007 fiscal year, will help lead to the reconstruction of approximately 1.2 miles of the road, including repaving, widening lanes and adding shoulders. “This reconstruction project will make commutes in Pendleton and Wheatfield faster and safer,” Reynolds said. “I’m happy to continue supporting the safety and well-being of the residents of Niagara County who use this road.” Located on the section of Townline Road between the south bridge over Bull Creek to Beach Ridge Road, the construction project will also include such safety improvements as the installation of a closed drainage system and of a roadside guardrail. “The reconstruction of the Pendleton-Wheatfield Townline Road will make it safer for residents who use it daily and for commuters traveling between Niagara and Erie counties,” said Niagara County Legislature Chairman William Ross, C-8th District. “The narrow road needs to be made safer, and Niagara County appreciates Congressman Reynolds’ efforts on our behalf.” “Upkeep and safety of town roads is an important quality-of-life issue,” Reynolds said. “The federal money obtained this year for Niagara County recognizes that fact, and will go a long way in making this project a reality.” The Transportation, Treasury and Housing and Urban Development bill must now be approved by the U.S. Senate before it becomes law. |
