Islettes named state majorettes

Islettes Elite members Rebecca Sobol and Shelbi Milkas won the 2006 Miss Majorette of New York titles in their respective age categories at the annual Miss Majorette of New York contest, held April 30 at Williamsville North High School.

Sobol earned her Miss Majorette title in the intermediate, ages 13-15, category, while Milkas was named Miss Majorette in the novice, ages 10-12, group.

Each contestant had to excel in solo baton twirling, strutting and modeling. The winners of this competition are now eligible to compete at the national level in South Bend, Ind., in July.

Other members of the Islettes Elite also competed in the various pageants and open events. Two of them, Alissa Bailey and Emily Fuoco, won the Rose Queen pageant for their excellence in modeling with interview.

The Islettes National team also participated in several group events in preparation for the nationals. The Islettes are by Heidi Sue Mumm, while Debbie Dudek, Nicole Dudek and Sobol work with the group’s soloists.
